Signs, Symptoms and How to Prevent TMD

Temporomandibular Joint Disorder, or TMD, is a condition whereby the temporomandibular joint, the joint connecting the jawbone to the skull, hurts so bad that normal activities like talking, laughing, and even eating become very difficult. This condition is self-diagnosable, and you can go to a health expert for further treatment. Below are some of the signs and symptoms for TMD, as well as some of how you can ease the pain it causes. Information can be found here.

Signs & Symptoms

Some of the most common signs of TMD include headaches and pain in the jaw. Now, it is worth noting that experiencing these signs alone does not necessarily mean you have TMD. If you feel nothing else but suspect it could be TMD, then you should see a doctor. When you start to feel an aching pain in or around your ear or locking of the joint and pain in one or both temporomandibular joints, there’s a higher chance it could be TMD, and you should look for professional help. See here for information about The Need for Seeing a Doctor When Dealing with TMD.

How To Ease the Pain

To ease the pain caused by TMD, you should avoid hard, crunchy food and avoid taking huge bites. You can also try breathing via your nose and make sure your teeth don’t touch.
